A blog about my world travel adventure -60/6/6- motorcycle tour

Hello world, my name is Jo,
approaching the age of 60 soon. I decided not to join my retirement as pilot.
I decided to explore in the age of 60 during the next 6 years 6 continents with my motorcycle.

I had luck in my life and I’m very thankful for that. I am in a good health condition and I could see almost all parts of the world from the skies during my job as pilot. Now, in the age of 60, I feel younger than my passport tells me to be. So, I decided to convert from Flight Capt. Jo to Biker Jo - as I am physiological fit, having no limits to ride a bike. Approaching the age of 60, I want to do something special during the last part of my active life and I want to extend this time period as far as possible.

Therefore, I decided to start a new career as professional biker, journalist and founder of the organisation

“Faces in the Wind”.

My general vision is, to unite bikers all over the world. To encourage people to consider making use of a motorcycle as an alternative mean of transport and to explore the own and other countries while feeling the wind and sun in the face. Enjoying nice and beautiful sceneries, visiting world heritages and having direct contact with locals; simply enjoying life during riding and traveling is an awesome way to explore our mother earth.
Locals become your teacher, understanding each other and exploring different cultures in a respectful, empathic manner is essential for me. If you travel longer and more intensive as you do with a motorcycle, people will join you on, you will spend time with them, you will enjoy good parts of the travel and you will overcome threats and obstacles together. Finally, people will develop and expand their horizons as they travel..

For me, this is the pure feeling of people and life. To plan and to carry out/ to lead larger trips needs experience and connections.

Therefore, “Faces in the Wind” wants to build a bridge to other regions, cultures, bikers and organizations soon. I will start my trip over six years to explore six continents with my bike. I will travel across paved and dirt roads to discover and understand cultures better, meeting people, and overcoming all kind of situations where help from locals is needed.
As a pilot I could manage to set up a lot of networks all over the world. Now I want to use this good friends and networks to plan and carry out my trips. I will not be in a hurry. Each trip per continent and year will take about 2-5 month only. I want to explore beautiful areas I have overflown in 38000 feet in the past years and I want to visit all world heritages along my routes. As a pilot I learned careful planning, risk assessments and timeline execution of plans. I will make use of this skills paired with my skills as biker gained over the past four decades.

As a golden rule, I will approach almost all biker associations en-route and hopefully I can get in touch with them, drive with them and explore their areas more intensively..

Of course, I will write a travel report,on this blog, create and post some videos and share the vision of
“Faces in the Wind” to everyone who likes this approach. You may follow me here if you like

Starting date 17.02.2020 with Europe North Africa.
